Where MAK4I is today, and where it's headed

The current focus is Developer Preview & Validation: a working reference implementation is running, and the near-term priorities are external testing, developer experience, and independent integrations. The specification keeps evolving alongside it. The phases below are not strictly sequential, and nothing is marked shipped until it actually works.

    Foundation

    Public repository, protocol design, problem statement and vision — published and iterating with community feedback.

    Phase 1

    Protocol Specification

    The MAK4I specification continues to evolve: portable context structures, lifecycle behavior, provenance, versioning and interoperability requirements, refined alongside the reference implementation and community RFCs.

    Phase 2

    Reference Implementation

    A working reference implementation (MVP) covers the core protocol workflow end to end — create, retrieve, search, supersede, version history and provenance, with CLI and MCP access. A hosted Developer Preview of it is running. Hardening and expansion continue.

    Reusable Artifacts

    Expand support across artifact categories and validate reuse workflows with developers and early design partners.

    A hosted registry for discovering, versioning and sharing artifacts across organizations, with governance and access controls.

    MCP Integration

    Initial MCP integration is working in the reference implementation today — MAK4I can be accessed through MCP. Native registry-level MCP and broader interoperability work remain ahead.
